What methods China has adopted to control coronavirus ? What have we learned?

April 8, 2020 Healthroid published a guide that included information and protocols that China used to prevent and treat Novel Corona virus (Covid-19) . Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal formulas and Moxibustion were also part of the official protocols of China. The link no longer contains the origin article or data. Here is what the journalist Priyank Pandey asked with full responses.

Query: We are working on a comprehensive guide that focuses on COVID-19. We are looking for medical experts who can tell us what methods China has adopted to control coronavirus. SARS-CoV-2 (virus strain that causes COVID-19)

1. What methods did China take to control the coronavirus?

The history of epidemics in China has made them one of the leaders in the field of influenza (viruses. This is because resources were allocated to influenza-related research and included  prevention and control as well as influenza-related research.

Epidemics are not new to China, in fact there have been at least 342 in the last 2000 years that have been documented and the use of herbs and acupuncture have been used to treat disease throughout history.

  • One thing that China and Asia incorporates is the use of Traditional chinese medicine (acupuncture, herbs, bodywork, food, movement etc) in addition to the use of antivirals.

  • Here is information that comes through my group of Chinese Medicine Practitioners that is not circulated very much or if at all that also has the protocols and the herbal formulas for each phase of the virus outbreak.

  • While modern medicine is very powerful, the best practice is to integrate other forms of healing and health support.

  • As of February 2nd, the official use of Traditional Chinese Medicine was mandated as part of the protocol for: Prevention, Treatment and Recover along with antivirals.

  • Effectiveness and role out of these protocols are based on research and clinical trials during the SARS and H1N1 epidemic.

  • In Chinese and Asian culture, family and community play a central role as are mindfulness of health. It shows Traditional Chinese Medicine (daoist) practices woven into the culture.  Foods, teas, home remedies, herbs,  exercise, mindbody practices (TaiChi & QiGong), acupuncture, herbal medicine, massage, Feng shui, and divination.

2. How has China traced every single COVID-19 case?

  • Making it a Priority: Tracking down every single person that has tested positive for the Covid-19 is a top priority there are temperature testing checkpoints. It requires complete cooperation and compliance with the health authorities.

  • Education: the public adopts the behaviors of safety.

  • A documentary detailing how one city Nanjing went from 93 cases to 0. It demonstrates extreme coordination and the technology to contain an outbreak.

  • China uses mass surveillance and facial recognition to monitor (spy) on their subjects as well as having a sophisticated healthcare system. This is how people were tracked and monitored who they had contact with. This has saved many lives.

3. During lockdown how people were getting extra food and Supplies?

4. Did China's lockdown specifically work?

Yes it did and is working, as we see that China is starting to emerge from restrictions and people going back to work.

With a history of epidemics of influenza, China was much more prepared to respond to the pandemic.

As witnessed, lock downs went into effect quite quickly and the mobilization of health practitioners to Wuhan and Hubei. and the building of a hospital in 10 days in Wuhan. This is extreme organization and preparedness.

This is because culturally China and Asia  in general are disciplined and have a community based mindset (we are in this together) you could call it a “hive” mindset.

Here is the copy of the PRC Official Recommendation: Handbook of COVID-10 Prevention and Treatment ,  this handbook was provided by the Jack Ma Foundation, Alibaba foundation and the medical workers in the field for the handbook that is filled with first hand experience with the outbreak. This handbook is a guideline to support and fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. #jackma

5. What are the lessons for other countries?

  • True Integrative medicine, the World Health Organization recognizes the benefits of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the benefits if it is incorporated into the healthcare system.

  • Comprehensive healthcare for all: system that is not subject to politics and defunding.

  • National Science foundation Investment into research and development that is well funded and not reliant on private drug companies.

  • Public health is a priority: not a privilege and because we don’t have it; the economic impact is tremendous.

  • Health awareness and knowledge: the public needs to take responsibility for their health.  That will prevent many of the chronic illnesses that lead to susceptibility to killer viruses and influenza.

6. Are COVID-19 cases coming to an end in China? For now it looks like the new cases are slowing but the virus is novel and that means cautious optimism.
